Volunteers Make a Difference

Thank you for your interest in becoming a volunteer with Neuse River Golden Retriever Rescue!  As a non-profit organization, we could not survive without the energy and dedication of our amazing volunteers.  If you have a passion for golden retrievers and the desire to make a difference, we would love to have you join us!  Every critical activity of our organization requires the help of volunteers, from fostering and transporting our dogs, to administrative assistance and helping at our fundraising events.  We have many opportunities available and are grateful for every volunteer’s participation and contribution.

Volunteer Opportunities

Applications Adviser (Must have previous NRGRR volunteer experience, at least 6 hours in the last year)
Review and approve or reject incoming applications for NRGRR dog adoptions.  Communicate with matchmakers, other application coordinators, and potential adopters via email, phone and in person. Workload varies depending on number of applications. (Average 2-8 hours per week).

Transporter (You must be at least 18 years or older)
Pick up dogs from shelters, owners, other rescues, etc. and bring them to NRGRR affiliated vet offices for medical intake.  Assist foster dogs on getting to medical appointments and other therapies.  Assist with pickup and transport of donated items.  Weekend and weekday work available!  (Varies on assignment, you can volunteer once a week or once a month).

Newsletter writers, photographers and videographers, social media mavens, graphic designers and technology-savvy individuals are always needed for various projects.  (Hours vary).

 Major Events
Golden Gala (spring)
Rescue Reunion (summer)
Golden on the Green Golf Tournament (fall)
We are always in need of volunteers for these big events.  Help us gather items for auctions and prize drawings, volunteer your time to help at the event with things like registration, setup, clean up, setting up displays and games, music, advertising the event, answering questions and much more!  (event coordinators: 10-15 hours per week, volunteers: 2-6 hours per week, volunteers at the event: 1-2 hour shifts).

Community Events
Do you want to share your love for the organization and for Golden Retrievers?  Volunteer to help at one of our events chatting with people, reuniting with visiting alumni and passing out and selling NRGRR swag. (coordinators: 3-6 hours per week, volunteers: 1-2 hour shifts).

Thank You and Sympathy card writers (Must have regular access to email and excellent handwriting skills)
We provide the cards and postage.  You supply the handwritten note to convey our heartfelt message and gratitude.  We know that our generous donors like to see their hard-earned money was received and put to good use.   It’s never easy to lose one of our dogs.  We want to let our NRGRR family know we are there for them.

Dog Day 5-K
A NRGRR sponsored event every October that raises money to help shelters and rescues in eastern North Carolina. We need planners and volunteers for this very special and important event!

Permanent Foster Homes
Consider becoming a foster for one of our special needs dogs.  You provide a loving home for the dog for the rest of his life and we pay for all the medical bills.  You only have to provide food, toys, a bed and LOVE.

Temporary Fosters
Are you interested in babysitting?  We support our foster homes in every way that we can; including making sure their foster dog has a place to hang when they need to go out of town.  Most temporary foster gigs can be a weekend, or sometimes longer.  If you are not sure you are ready or able to foster, this is a great way to try it out!

Foster Homes
There is nothing more rewarding than providing a loving home for a dog in need.  Our coordinators work with fosters to match dogs to the right foster home.  All you have to do is provide love, exercise and attention!

Meet and Greets
On the first and third Saturday of every month, we show off our dogs who are ready to find their forever home.  Meet fosters, adopters, other volunteers and most important, the dogs! We can always use an extra hand with dogs and people.
