Moe’s Story

Moe was picked up by Animal Control as a stray. Everyone at the shelter could see what a great dog he was and they reached out to Neuse River for help. Moe had not been well cared for and sadly he was heartworm positive.

Even the transported talked about what a snuggler he was and what a great companion he would become for a lucky adopter. Moe received his intake exam and was moved to his foster home. But within 2 days, he was lethargic, not eating and coughing. So he was taken to emergency where we found out he had pneumonia and was dehydrated. He was admitted for supportive care and therapy and was doing better. So he went back to the foster home where he quickly became ill again.

On readmission to emergency, we found that despite being on an antibiotic for his pneumonia, his white blood cell count was still increasing! So another antibiotic was added and he remained on fluids for two more days. In his first week of rescue, he spent 4 of those days in emergency!

After multiple x-rays, medications and lots of loving care, Moe is now feeling better and is able to begin his heartworm treatment. He continues to be a super snuggler and loves everyone. What a great family member he will be!
