Hello everyone. My name is Mary Katherine (MK for short!). I arrived at NRGRR from a shelter and I was a very sad, sick and and neglected girl but I’m looking and feeling better now after some TLC from NRGRR! Some might say I’ve had an “extreme makeover” because they don’t recognize me now that I’m a healthy, active girl. I’ve added a few “before” pictures to my profile so you can see how far I’ve come with the wonderful care I’ve received from my NRGRR and veterinary team. Check out all those smiles in my “after” pictures!
My foster mom says I’m the sweetest girl she’s ever fostered. I love getting snuggles and will roll over for belly rubs at the drop of a hat. I L-O-V-E people and I’ve never met a person I didn’t like! I greet them very respectfully and hope for lots of attention and snuggles. I recently met many new people at Thanksgiving dinner and greeted them in a friendly manner, approached everyone for a scratch on the head and slept under the table most of the time. Did I tell you that I know sit, down, and stay commands? I also know “come” but I prefer to come to the sound of the Milk Bone Dog Biscuit box being shaken … I move really fast when I hear that! I also ride nicely in the car and just flop down for a nap in the back seat.
I really enjoy spending time outside in the fenced yard and one of my favorite activities is sniffing all the wonderful smells in the yard. I have to check out all the bushes and trees, sniff around the perimeter, check out the deer, and generally cover the territory several times each day. I really want a fenced yard in my new home so that I can be free to safely wander and sniff everything at my leisure. I also like leash walks and get excited when my foster moms shows me the leash. I need some additional leash training now that I’m feeling better and enjoy running and playing.
I get along great with my two foster brothers. They’re frisky young things and I love to run in the woods, play tug, unstuff toys, and curl up on the doggie bed with them. It was a great day when I got healthy enough to move around and found the toy box. I proceeded to take each toy out, chew on it, play tug with my foster brother, and then go back for more. Somehow the toys all managed to get back in the box and I got to do it all over again the next day … and the next!
I have a few residual medical issues that my foster mom says are easily managed with some medications and I need a bath occasionally to keep my skin healthy and my fur thick and silky. Other than that I’m a lovely house guest and hope to find my forever home soon.
Mary-Katherine is available as a senior to senior adoption.
