Flame's Story

 November 19, 2012

Flame is adopted!!  Thank you to all of our supporters who donated to pay for Flame's veterinary care so we could help him find his forever home.  It was a long road but Flame is healthy and happy in his new home now.  Without you, we could not have made this possible.

Flame had successful surgery at the NCSU Vet School and is now running and playing like he's always wanted to. The doctors at the vet school had to make the rings to insert in his trachea because this is such an unusual diagnosis for a large dog. He came through the surgery like the champ he is.

Flame had a beautiful long beard like a lion and his foster calls him Leo as a result. That had to be shaved for the surgery and when the fur regrows, the scars will be gone. Flame is a tough young guy who has a bright future.  Thank you to everyone who has contributed to his special care so far.  If you would like to contribute to the Blarney's Way Fund to help him we would appreciate your support.

Flame is a two year old who was abandoned in a neighborhood in eastern North Carolina.

He was picked up by the shelter as a stray and brought into our rescue in March.  He had a hacking cough that we've been treating and trying to diagnosis since then.  After trying many things to cure this cough and failing, we consulted with the N.C.State Veterinary School in August where he was diagnosed with a tracheal collapse.

This is a very unusual diagnosis in a big breed dog and his quality of life is poor without surgery to correct it. The surgery is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept 19.  The surgeons will insert rings on the outside of his trachea to hold it open.

Please keep Flame in your thoughts as he goes through this.  He deserves and good life and we would appreciate if you could donate to his surgery.  No amount is too big or too small.
