Adopt a Senior Dog from NRGRR

NOTE: You must be a resident of North Carolina to adopt one of our dogs.  If you live more than three hours from the Raleigh-Durham area, adopting from us may be challenging.

We are so glad you are choosing to adopt a rescue dog and have found NRGRR. Because of the popularity of this breed we receive far more applications than we have dogs in our program. If you are beginning your application process today and you are interested in a specific dog on our website, chances are, the dog will have been adopted by the time we complete your application process. Be patient. Our volunteers are committed to ensuring that every dog finds the perfect home.

The decision to place one of our dogs into an adoptive home is our most important work. We reserve the right to deny any application and we do not operate on a first-come, first-served basis. Our goal is to find the absolute best forever home for our dogs with the best adoptive family.

10 Reasons to Adopt a Senior Dog From NRGRR

  1. When senior goldens are adopted, they seem to understand that they've been rescued, and are all the more thankful for it.

  2. You can teach an old dog new tricks! Seniors have the attention span and impulse control that makes them easier to train than their youthful counterparts.

  3. A senior golden won't grow any larger, so you'll know exactly how much pet you're getting.

  4. Older dogs have learned what “no” means.

  1. Older goldens settle in easily, because they’ve earned what it takes to get along with others and become part of a pack.

  2. You know what energy level you are bringing into your home.  If you walk or jog, you have a companion; or if you love to sit on the couch and watch movies, you have a couch mate.  With a senior dog you won’t be surprised by what you get.

  3. Seniors are often content to just relax in your company, unlike younger pets, who may get into mischief because they're bored.

  4. Consider a senior golden a retiree, rather than a high-energy young dog who will run you ragged. Not that older dogs don’t require any exercise, they do, but they're not going to need, or want, to run a marathon.

  5. Seniors let you get a good night’s sleep because they’re accustomed to human schedules and don’t generally need nighttime feedings, comforting, or bathroom breaks.

  6. You can make the world a better place by adopting a senior dog because no old dog should be abandoned or afraid.
