Volunteer - Adoption Assistance

Volunteer positions involved in the adoption process include:

  • Application coordinators
  • Home visit volunteers

Our application coordinators check phone messages, return calls and interview potential adopters over the phone while explaining the application process.  An application is sent to the adopter and when it is returned, the application coordinator reviews it and contacts all references.  If necessary a home visit is done and when the application is approved the coordinator works with the potential adopter until they find the right dog.  The application coordinator forwards the potential adopter’s application to the foster family and the foster family decides which applicant is best for the dog in their care.

If a potential adopter is a first time dog owner or if the application coordinator is uncomfortable with something on the application, a home visit will be requested.  Home visits are done by two volunteers who meet with the applicant at their home, inspect the property and complete a questionnaire.  This information is sent to the application coordinator to assist in the approval process.
